Healthy Eating with Barlean’s and Stonyfield

I created this post in partnership with Stonyfield, but all opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting the brands that support my blog.

barleansHealthy eating has become ever more important in my house these days. I’ve been looking for ways to maximize the amount of good nutrients my family gets from our food, especially the foods we love to eat a lot. One food that hits a home run in my house is the smoothie. Perfect for breakfast or a mid-afternoon snack, smoothies can be a sure-fire way to fill my kids with good stuff, like fruit and vegetables.

With healthy eating in mind, the folks at Stonyfield invited me to check out Barlean’s liquid Omega-3 oil supplements, ground flaxseed, and chia seeds — super foods designed to add nutrients to any diet. I’ve been interested getting more Omega-3 into our diets, as its anti-inflammatory properties offer many benefits, including support for heart health and overall well-being. Since we don’t eat enough fish — which is rich in Omega-3 — finding new (and yummy) ways to get more of this nutrient was on my to do list.

With help from my children, R and G, I created three smoothies, using Barlean’s products, riffing on recipes Barlean’s provided with their product samples. The kids, my official taste testers, declared the smoothies “delicious,” though they weren’t so keen to share their smoothies with one another for the taste testing; even I, the chef, had to sneak some when they weren’t looking!

R and G recommend making these smoothies for your kids “all the time.” Since they are so easy to make – and so easy to customize to your flavor palette – smoothies are a perfect way to involve your kids in the kitchen and to fill them with what they need to be healthy. I’m also working on adding Barlean’s products to other foods we love, such as flax seed in banana bread or chia seeds in yogurt parfaits. Enjoy!

You can purchase Barlean’s products in health food stores or Whole Foods, and via Amazon.
